Flea Market

This part of my life is called learning new experiences of life.

From working in IT computers to working at flea market in shopping mall. I have always wanted to things which I never imagine I could. So there happened to be an exhibition of bags of my very close school friend, who requested me to assist her over the weekend. I instantly accepted her request, as I am always open to for new things coming our way. *wink* Before this, I have always visited the mall, either for shopping or for watching movie.

Service Lift :- This time the entry we took was little different, we entered the service lift area as vender. The entrance for vendors is from back side, where we have to register goods and take a trolley and enter the mall before 10:30 am. Following the timelines is strictly important, as mall management doesn’t like vendor trolleys to be visible to as customer starts entering the mall. The trolleys we have to use to carry stuff were closed one, again that is a rule. We reached our table and started organizing the bags on table, small ones in the front and big ones in the back, giving glance checking other stalls. The way all other vendors interacting with other I guessed they are into this business from months and know each other. So many anxious eyes staring at us. But as time passed everyone visited each other’s stalls and become friends easily J. So the awkwardness which was there as we entered the flea was converted into comfort-ness.

Reading  book during slow times

Mall Radio:- Another new thing i got to know was there is mall radio which keep doing announcements before the mall gate opens at 11:00 am. There was an announcement at 10:45 am” Welcome vendors, mall will go live in another 15, minutes, keep your stuff organized and get ready to have a wonderful day J, and it was playing soothing music just after the announcement. As the mall gate opened, I could see so many people entering the mall, I was like “wow” people do come to mall early in the morning. Slowly people started walking in to our stall , checking the stuff and some people were just ignoring the flea market completely by walking away, thinking that only branded stuff are worth buying, some people were busy on their phones, some were with their GF or BFs, some were running behind their kids.

Mall Train: - The Flea market was centrally located, as the mall opened, there started the remote car riding for kids 3-10 years kids, panda ride with Gangnam style song playing in repeat mode again for kids below 10 years and for the big kids or people with kid at heart there was Segway ride. And a small train for kids with thier parents to have a quick view of mall.  So these cars, panda bike and Segway rides used to go, round and round to the flea market. Although i never spoke to these riders, we shared a smile every time they will pass by our table, and i will wave to the kids sitting in train :) .Some parents were busy recording the video of first car ride of their children’s, some were busy posing at Segway to put it on social media. Although we never spoke to this,

  • You’ve “networked” with employees from other stores so you could all get discounts for each other.
  • You’ve had a customer walk in right when you’re about to close. And they’ve got a RETURN
  • You’ve organized the bags and watched someone destroy the order next moment and dont buy anything.
  •  You’ve endured that pleasant moment when you say “Hi” and the customer responds with “JUST LOOKING.”
  • You learn to eat alone at the food court or breakout area.
  • You agonize with parents who let their kids run wild and expected YOU to keep an eye on them.
  •  You had to put on a brave face when spotting a shoplifter.
  •  After dealing with rude customer after rude customer, you’ve trained urself to resist punching people on d        face.
  • Your diet is challenged.
  • You've learnt to always put smile on face, like you are happy to assist.
  • You start learning what others might be expecting by the choice they make.
  • You learn to convince people how the stuff is better for them.
  • The most expected buyer never buys anything and the one whom you never expect buys 5 stuff :).
  • You learn to convince people how the stuff is better for them.
  • customer loves discounts :) so when you make 40% scratched to 50%, it catches the attention.

So we just loved being at the mall, got to interact with so many people, socialize, enjoy, had total fun weekend. I totally miss the weekend spent at the flea market :)
